Yaba College of Technology closed for four weeks

Protests over the death of
a student of the Yaba College of
Technology has forced the school to
suspend all academic activities for four
weeks.
The suspension was to allow the school
to mourn the late student, Miss Comfort
Dazan, who died on Wednesday,
according to a statement by the school’s
Head of Public Relations, Mr. Charles Oni .
The statement declared that all students
were to vacate all hostels on Thursday,
February 11, in a move to stop the
damage that the protests have caused to
school property.
According to the statement, the late Miss
Dazan had been a sickle cell patient, and
had relapsed shortly after a crisis and
had died on her way to the Federal
Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta.
“Students immediately cashed in on the
death of the late Dazan to engage in an
opportunistic clamour for the extension of
the semester. They demanded that the
semester be extended by additional two
weeks. The clamour for extension sprang
up again on Wednesday after the death
of Miss Dazan,’’ the statement said..
